Friends of Ru A LITTLE ABOUT RUPERT

Our amazing friend Ru is just four years old. On 8th November 2019 he was diagnosed with a large retroperitoneal tumour, confirmed as high-risk neuroblastoma. He started chemotherapy the following day, and spent his fourth birthday at the Royal Marsden in Sutton where he is now being treated.

SO WHO ARE WE? We’re Ru’s friends.

Most of us are also four years old. Some of us met when Rupert was in Alice’s tummy; some when he was new to the world; some at sports clubs; some at nursery.

This is all pretty big grown-up stuff, and the power of children is their innocence.

We want to show Rupert that when scary things we don’t really understand happen, we come together to help. All we want is to be back playing football, gymnastics and swimming with our friend; to play dinosaur games and magic shows; to sing silly pooh-pooh songs and chase each other around the playground. All we want is for our friend Ru to get better again.

HOW WE'RE HELPING
As Alice's "Mum-friends" span far and wide, we’re going to be fundraising in multiple ways. Here’s a few ways you’ll hear from us when asking you to dig deep!

SPONSOR OUR STEPS
So the Coronavirus has stopped many of our planned activities, especially face-to-face, but it won't stop us fundraising for our Rupert. Making the most of working from home/home schooling our children/self isolation periods (all three at the same time!), we've decided to increase our fitness levels whilst raising money.
10 of Alice's friends are committing to WALKING AROUND THE WORLD - thats 20million steps between us (OMG!) - between now and our family fun day. We'll be coming up with inventive ways to get our step counts in whilst indoors and will share our journey on Instagram @Friends_Of_Ru
Please sponsor our steps, no matter how little you can donate it will make a huge difference.

WEEKEND WORKOUT
On Friday 17th April - Sunday 19th April we're working with over 30 incredible trainers to bring you virtual workouts from Yoga, Pilates, Body Blast, HIIT, Grit, Latin Dance, Zumba and Bolly X. Not to mention 2 Kids Discos! The trainers are giving their time for free, all we ask is that you donate to our page to take part, whatever amount you can.

ALEX'S PORTRAITS
Alex not only has two little girls and a full time job, she's also a talented artist in her 'spare time'. She'll be sharing some of her portraits on our Instagram page, and if you'd like one of your child all she's asking is for a donation. Amazing hey? Email her at: alex.gwen.hill "at" gmail.com

FAMILY FUN DAY
With the help of Dorking Rugby Club, which is just over the road from Rupert’s home, we’re organising a family fun day, including a sponsored fun run, live rugby matches and much more. We're hopeful this will happen in September, details to follow about how you can get involved!

WHERE YOUR DONATIONS WILL GO

Ru has just completed eight rounds of Rapid COJEC protocol chemotherapy and will undergo a stem cell harvest and surgery over the next few weeks. Rupert will then have high dose chemotherapy followed by radiotherapy and immunotherapy. As a result of chemotherapy, Rupert has already suffered some hearing loss and kidney damage and developed an allergy to platelet transfusions.

His family are raising funds for further treatment, either to get Rupert into remission or to try and keep the cancer away if the treatment goes to plan. Friends of Ru
