Benny's story

Benny is a happy and caring five-year-old who loves dinosaurs and dreams of playing for Newcastle United when he grows up.

Benny was two when he was diagnosed with high-risk neuroblastoma. Two years of intensive treatment followed. Then, in March 2025, Benny finished frontline treatment and life began to feel a little more normal. 

In October 2025, Benny’s family learned that his neuroblastoma had relapsed. 

Relapsed neuroblastoma is particularly difficult to treat, with no single standard treatment pathway. Benny’s family began exploring treatment options abroad. They decided to pursue CAR T-cell therapy in Rome and began fundraising to make it possible. 

Benny’s family got in touch with Solving Kids’ Cancer UK soon after his diagnosis, and our Family Support Team has been by their side throughout treatment, setbacks and ultimately relapse. 

When Benny relapsed, we were there to help his family navigate treatment decisions, provide practical support and talk through their options during an incredibly challenging time. 

We supported the family through fundraising. Once the campaign reached its target, we coordinated between Benny’s UK and Rome treatment teams, helping make his treatment in Rome possible. 

But family support isn't only about the big moments. Sometimes it's simply having someone to turn to when you're not sure what comes next. 

As Benny's mum told us: 

"You've all been there to provide support and assistance and act as a sounding board when I've needed it most." 

Benny has now received CAR T-cell therapy in Rome and continues to travel back and forth for regular scans and assessments to monitor his progress. His journey isn't over, but his family doesn't have to face it alone.
