From a simple coffee morning bake sale to a showstopping Bake Off competition, baking is a fun and easy way to raise money for Solving Kids' Cancer UK. So grab your apron, unleash your inner star baker and use these tips and resources to make your event a recipe for success.

Choose a date and venue

Decide when and where you'll hold your event. Whether it's in the office, at school, in your community or at home, pick a location that's easy for people to attend.

Decide on your event

Will you host a traditional bake sale, where people buy cakes and treats, or a Bake Off competition where bakers go head-to-head for the title of star baker?

Spread the word

Promote your event to colleagues, friends and family. Share it on social media, advertise on your company's intranet, send invitations or display posters in busy areas.

Pick a theme

A theme can make your event even more appealing. Why not tie it in with a seasonal celebration such as Easter, Halloween or Christmas, or challenge bakers to create cakes inspired by a particular theme?

Add a raffle or competition

Boost the fun and your fundraising with a raffle, sweepstake or cake decorating competition. Offer a small prize to encourage participation.

Set your prices

Decide how much to charge for cakes and bakes. As a guide, donations of £1 to £2 per item work well. Remember to clearly label ingredients and highlight any allergens.

Keep your bake sale safe

Before your event, read the Food Standards Agency's guidance on providing food at community and charity events. You can find more information on the Food Standards Agency website.

Judging your Bake Off

If you're hosting a competition, ask judges to score each bake for taste, appearance and creativity. Total or average the scores to crown your winning baker. For larger events, you could even hold heats over several weeks before a grand final.
