Can I change my mind about enrolling my child on a clinical trial?
Yes. You can change your mind at any time about your child taking part in a clinical trial. Taking part is completely voluntary, and your consent is an ongoing process - you can withdraw at any point. Withdrawing should not affect your relationship with your child's medical team or their access to any other care or treatment options.
What happens if we decide to stop the trial?
If you choose to leave a clinical trial, your child’s consultant will talk through the next steps with you. This may include:
- Returning to the standard treatment pathway offered at your child’s hospital
- Exploring other treatment options that may be suitable
- Discussing whether any other clinical trials may be available
Your child’s healthcare team will continue to monitor their wellbeing and advise you on appropriate next steps in their care.
Can we take time to reconsider?
Yes. It’s normal for families to feel unsure, worried, or overwhelmed when deciding about trial participation. You can ask for more time, request further information, or ask your consultant to go through the trial details again.
