How can we cope with neuroblastoma as a family?

neuroblastoma diagnosis affects the whole family. It’s normal to feel overwhelmed, or unsure how to cope and these feelings can change over time. There is no “right” way to cope, and families often need different types of support at different points in the journey. You don’t have to cope alone - our Family Support Team is here to support you.

How our Family Support Team can help

Emotional support

Many parents and carers find it helpful to talk to someone who understands neuroblastoma and the impact it can have on family life. The Family Support Team can:

  • listen without judgement
  • help you talk through worries or fears
  • support you in finding ways to cope emotionally

Practical support

Neuroblastoma can affect everyday life in many ways, including work, finances, travel, and caring for siblings. The Family Support Team can help you think through practical challenges and signpost you to appropriate support, helping to reduce some of the pressure on your family.

Making treatment decisions

Treatment decisions can feel complex and emotionally draining. Having clear information, and the space and support to think and talk things through, can make these decisions feel more manageable. The Family Support Team can support you alongside your child’s medical team as you navigate making treatment decisions.  The Redmapp website also supports parents whose child has relapsed or refractory neuroblastoma in their treatment decision-making: www.redmapp.org.uk

Staying connected

Many families find comfort in connecting with others who understand what they are going through. The Family Support Team can help you access peer support, including connecting with other families affected by neuroblastoma

Reaching out for support is not a sign of weakness; it’s a way of caring for yourself and your family during a very challenging time.

Help and support for your family

Our Family Support Team is here to support you with the emotional and practical challenges you face, offering a safe space to talk things through or ask questions wherever you are in your journey.
