About our bereavement grants
Our Big Love Fund bereavement grants provide financial support of up to £500 to help families in the UK and Ireland with funeral and associated costs following the loss of a child or young person to neuroblastoma. We recognise that this can be an incredibly difficult time, and the grant is intended to help ease some of the financial pressures families may face after a bereavement.
Who can receive a grant?
You may be eligible for a bereavement grant if:
- Your child or young person had a neuroblastoma diagnosis
- Your child or young person was 30 years or under when they passed away
- Your family is residing in the UK or Ireland
- Your child or young person passed away less than one year ago
No means testing is required. If you’re unsure whether you meet the eligibility criteria, please email us at familygrants@solvingkidscancer.org.uk and we’ll be happy to advise you.

About the Fund
The Big Love Fund was inspired by Luke Wiltshire's story, who was diagnosed with neuroblastoma at 14 years old. In 2021, Luke and his family received the devastating news that there were no more curative options for him. Having faced years of aggressive and toxic cancer treatment, Luke found solace and comfort in the world of Marvel and gaming and had a special wish to play the not yet released game, Marvel’s Midnight Suns from 2K and Firaxis Games.
Following a public appeal from Solving Kids’ Cancer UK, Luke’s story reached the gaming community, eventually leading to 2K visiting him with an in‑development version of the game. Luke became one of the first people in the world to play it and is forever honoured within the game, with a small tribute reading “Luke was here” engraved on a tree. Luke sadly died in 2021 at the age of 23.
