Always remembering

Denver

Cheeky, happy, full of charm and energy. Superhero Denver passed away when he was 4 years old.

Denver's story

When Denver’s nursery rang Wanda in May 2018 to say that he had fallen off a balance bike, his mum, Wanda, picked him up and found him very distressed. She rushed him to A&E and a scan clearly showed a mass. He was then taken to Addenbrookes hospital.

It was only when they were admitted to the oncology ward that it dawned on Wanda that it was cancer. Denver was diagnosed with stage 4 high-risk neuroblastoma and the cancer had spread to his lungs.

Brave Denver underwent an intensive treatment regime, including high-dose chemotherapy, surgery, bone marrow aspirations and blood transfusions, plus endless injections and scans.

His family began fundraising with Solving Kids’ Cancer UK in case he needed treatment not available through the NHS. Denver captured the hearts of his local community in Dereham, Norfolk. One of the final fundraising events for him, Denver’s Superhero Walk, saw hundreds of people walking through the town centre. He also forged a bond with boxing star Billy Joe Saunders who took part in the walk.

Sadly, a few months after surgery to remove the tumour, Denver stopped responding to treatment.

Denver passed away on 14th February 2019.

"I have some very sad news. My little superhero has decided he can’t be strong anymore and has taken his last breath at 4 am this morning. His name and strength will live on in me and my children. He is and will always be our superhero… LOVE YOU my son now and always xxxx"

Denver’s mum, Wanda.
