“To look at Harry, you would not know what he has been through and thankfully he doesn't seem to remember his treatment, he only remembers the fun times in hospital playing with the fantastic play team. He is just like any other little boy; he blends in beautifully in his class at school and really enjoys being there. We are so proud of him.”

Harry’s story

Harry was diagnosed in January 2018 at just two years old – this was after his parents had noticed that he’d become restless at night, tired and clingy, wasn’t playful and had lost his appetite. Lots of tests and scans were carried out at their local hospital, and the family were told the devastating news that a large tumour had been found in Harry’s stomach.

Harry began chemotherapy quickly, which was followed by stem cell harvest and an eight-hour surgery to remove the primary tumour and adrenal gland. He then received high-dose chemotherapy, stem cell transplant and radiotherapy.

Harry soon started to improve, sleeping less and moving around more. He made friends with the play staff and cleaners and was finally able to spend more time playing with, and annoying, big sister Izzy. They’d been separated during Harry’s treatment.

Harry received immunotherapy and finished frontline treatment in April 2019.

His family, after much thought and discussion with Harry’s medical team, identified the bivalent vaccine clinical trial at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York as the next step in treatment for Harry. His family were supported by Solving Kids’ Cancer UK to raise the funds for treatment, and after incredible support from their community, Harry was able to enrol on the clinical trial. He completed the trial in May 2020.

Harry remains in remission since completing treatment. He recently had his Goldilocks style hair cut short and donated it to the Little Princess Trust.

High-risk neuroblastoma is an aggressive cancer with high rates of relapse. At relapse, the chance of survival is extremely low. Your donation will support Harry should he need future treatment not available through the NHS, or children like Harry.

Funds raised will go towards helping Harry and his family. If Harry no longer needs the funds or is in remission five years post the end of successful treatment, the funds will be used to support other children and families affected by neuroblastoma through our activities. For children with high-risk neuroblastoma, like Harry, the survival rate is much lower than other childhood cancers. Upon relapse, this rate reduces even further.
