Hayley Donate Fundraise In loving memory of Hayley Bendall 04/06/2011 - 15/09/2018 Hayley was a happy little girl, who was healthy until she was diagnosed at the age of four with high-risk neuroblastoma. She sadly passed away after a three-year fight aged seven years. Hayley’s family say: “We are completely heartbroken but would like to thank you all for supporting Hayley through everything she has been through and hope you will always remember her and keep her in your hearts.” Hayley’s story Initially, it was Hayley’s sister, Jessica, who caused the family great concern when she was diagnosed with stage 4s neuroblastoma as a baby. Thankfully, Jessica is now 5 years post-treatment and in remission. Just before her 4th birthday Hayley started complaining that her legs hurt, and later said that she had a sore tummy. After many visits to the GP and several hospital tests, she was eventually diagnosed with stage 4 high-risk neuroblastoma. Hayley’s frontline treatment included 8 cycles of chemotherapy – treatment that didn’t have the desired effect on her cancer. It was switched to a different chemotherapy combination called TVD following which Hayley then went on to receive radiotherapy and then immunotherapy. Sadly despite all the intensive treatment received, residual disease remained and there was further disease progression. No further treatment was planned because of the impact of previous treatment on Hayley’s bone marrow function. At the time, her parents Brian and Zoe were impressed with the way Hayley had coped with everything. “Hayley handled her treatment - as well as all tests, scans, pokes and prods - like an absolute star. She is so incredibly brave and we are very proud of her.” Brian and Zoe fundraised with Solving Kids’ Cancer in order to access treatment as part of a clinical trial if that was their chosen option for Hayley. Now that money will help other children and families affected by neuroblastoma.
