Always remembering

Morgan

Morgan was an inspirational and courageous little boy who brought his local community together with his fundraising campaign. He passed away when he was seven years old after a three-year fight.

Morgan’s story

Morgan had become lethargic, which his parents, Ben and Sophie, thought was a natural reaction to starting school.

Once he started vomiting and complaining of stomach pains they made an emergency appointment with their GP, who advised going to hospital. Blood tests and an X-ray showed an infection, but a course of antibiotics did nothing. Morgan had fluid from his hip removed and the hospital decided a CT scan was needed.

Morgan was diagnosed with stage 4 high-risk neuroblastoma. The disease had spread to his bone and bone marrow.

Morgan’s treatment regime was intensive. Months of chemotherapy, successful surgery to remove the primary tumour, stem cells harvest and transplant, high-dose chemotherapy, 3 weeks of radiotherapy to the original tumour site and 6 months of immunotherapy.

He finished frontline treatment in February 2017 and showed no evidence of disease. Just 5 weeks later he began to complain of pains in his arm, legs and side. Morgan had sadly relapsed in the central nervous system which was life-threatening.

After exhausting the treatment options through the NHS, the family fundraised £191,000 with Solving Kids’ Cancer UK to access a clinical trial at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, to try to clear the disease again.

The family made the trip but sadly couldn’t access the treatment as Morgan’s disease had progressed too far.

Morgan passed away peacefully two months later on 12th January 2018.

"It is with a very heavy heart I write this on behalf of Ben, Sophie and their families. Morgan passed away peacefully in his sleep this morning, in the arms of his Mum, Dad and family. We thank you all for your ongoing support and kind words."
