Gabrielle Donate Fundraise In loving memory of Gabrielle Alderson 10/02/03 – 12/03/17 Gaby was described by her mum, Vicki, as caring, funny and beautiful. She loved Dr Who and Harry Potter. Gaby was diagnosed with stage 4 high-risk neuroblastoma in September 2013 at the age of ten. Vicki first noticed there was something wrong when Gaby’s energy levels seemed to dwindle during the summer holidays. During a holiday with her father, Gaby complained of back pain and concerned her mother took her to the local doctors. She had blood tests and just two days later Vicki received a phone call asking her to take Gaby to hospital as her blood tests revealed something was amiss. Gaby’s parents were told that she had a mass in her abdomen which was confirmed as neuroblastoma just a week later. Neuroblastoma is an aggressive childhood cancer and the most common cancer diagnosed in children under 5 years old. In most cases, it is only diagnosed when it has already progressed to a late ‘high-risk’ stage. Gaby underwent frontline treatment in the UK but after a few months still showed signs of the disease in her bone marrow. She accessed the BEACON trial in April 2014 due to the progression of her neuroblastoma but struggled with low platelet counts. Sadly scans in May 2016 showed disease progression and a new tumour in the brain. Gaby passed away but her page will remain open for any donations in this beautiful girl’s memory.
