Running the 2024 Brighton Marathon for Teddy

I'm fundraising in support of four-year-old Teddy who is fighting neuroblastoma, a rare and aggressive childhood cancer.

Fundraising total£1,825.00
Target £3,000.00

Why I'm fundraising

In July 2022, my nephew Teddy was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive cancer that has a 40-50% chance of long-term survival at diagnosis. My brother and sister-in-law are fundraising for potentially lifesaving treatment, to try and keep the cancer away if his frontline treatment goes to plan.

This will cost hundreds of thousands of pounds, so I thought I'd try and raise a fraction of that cost by running the Brighton marathon in April next year. This is my first marathon and I'll be starting training from scratch as in February 2023 I fell down the stairs and caused multiple fractures to my ankle. (Ankle is all ready to go now though.)

Teddy loves trains, (like really loves them!) so I promise if we get to the target of £3,000, I'll stop halfway through the marathon and give a rousing rendition of the Thomas the Tank Engine theme song*. (People that know me will know that everyone in the crowd should be able to hear...)

Any donation will be greatly received, and please spread the word as I'm not on the social media.

UPDATE
Since starting the training at the end of last year for the marathon in April, I've unfortunately had to have 6 physiotherapy sessions, 3 visits to a Dr specialising in sports injuries and 2 different injections into my knee. I now have a week recovery but then that leaves me with around 13 weeks to get up to marathon strength. I'm not entirely sure if my knees would handle that, so I have now booked a space for the marathon in Battersea Park in October. (Not as exciting as Brighton, but apparently with less hills!) I'll definitely be training soon and hopefully will be up to full strength for the run. Thanks all that have donated so far, your generosity has been incredible and hugely appreciated. Much love.

Take care all, and thanks for reading,

Ric x

*If, by overwhelming public generosity, the donations get to 5 figures, as well as the TTTE theme song, I'll also perform a 3-minute Take That medley at around the 20-22 mile mark.

Donate to Ric's fundraising page

A donation to Ric's page could help Teddy access potentially life-saving treatment, either to get him into remission or to try and keep the cancer away if frontline treatment goes to plan.
