Every year I try and challenge myself with a new adventure. To celebrate a friend's 40th we are going to run our first ultra by running The Lap around Lake Windermere 47 Miles / 75 KM on the 13 May 2023. Up to 24 hours to take in all the best viewpoints as we circumnavigate England's largest and most iconic lake. This was nothing I had ever thought of doing but a friend want to do one and I never shy away from a challenge. This is probably the most extreme activity I have undertaken. I don't normally raise money for charity but due to the extreme challenge, I feel it would be a good opportunity to raise funds for a worthy cause.
Neuroblastoma
Neuroblastoma is a rare type of childhood cancer that develops from nerve cells, left behind from a baby’s development in the womb, called neuroblasts.
Neuroblastoma can occur anywhere in the body- tumours normally start in the abdomen, particularly in the adrenal glands or in nerve tissue located around the spine and pelvis. In some cases, neuroblastoma can spread to other areas in the body such as the bone marrow, bone, lymph nodes and skin. Most cases occur in children under the age of 5, with occurrences in teenagers and adults being much rarer.
Around 100 children in the UK are diagnosed with neuroblastoma each year. This represents 6% of all childhood cancer diagnoses.
Kayla is a very happy and lively four-year-old from Norwich. She loves Minnie Mouse, Frozen, Peppa Pig and all things pink! She adores her big brothers, Riley and Kory, and loves spending time with them. In May 2021 Kayla was diagnosed with high-risk neuroblastoma, a rare and aggressive childhood cancer that has a 40-50% chance of long-term survival at diagnosis.
